Over 1,000 spectators came through the doors to take part in the day’s festivities. The Board Shop at TSR hosted a Spring Break style show to showcase the season’s hottest looks and new brands in the shop. The day ended with a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament, where the winner walked away with a brand new flat screen TV!

Next Up: Cablestock Weekend, TSR’s largest event of the year (May 4-6). Come out and kick off the 2012 summer season with the biggest beach party in Central Texas. Itʼs Moustache Season – Annual Movember Campaign Kicks Off at the Texas Ski Ranch for Cancers Affecting Men

Texas Ski Ranch and Wahoo’s Fish Taco Serve as Local Mo Headquarters for Annual Moustache Charity Event Raising Awareness and Funds for Menʼs Health Benefiting Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG

The Texas Ski Ranch is excited to take part in the 5th Annual Moustache charity event! The Mo, slang for moustache, and November come together each year for Movember. Movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men’s health by growing a moustache.

The rules are simple, start Movember 1st clean-shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month. The moustache becomes the ribbon for men’s health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days.

Texas Ski Ranch and Wahoo’s Fish Taco will act as the local Mo Headquarters for all who wish to get involved in the months events. There will be a kick-off party Wednesday, Nov. 2nd at TSR’s monthly Art on the Beach. Local artists will show off their work, Wahoo’s Fish Taco will offer killer drink specials, a local barber will be out to give participants a clean shave and local Mo Bros and Mo Sistas will come together to celebrate Movember! TSR will also host weekly Thursday night Mo Bro and Mo Sista Meet-Ups and a wrap up event Nov. 30th to give away prizes and awards to Movember participants.

To help support Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, TSR invites men and women to help raise funds and awareness for menʼs health by joining the “TSR Stache Crew” or registering their own team at www.Movember.com.

About Movember

Movember aims to forever change the face of menʼs health through the power of the moustache, by raising awareness and funds that will reduce the number of preventable male deaths by cancer. Since inception as a charity event in 2004, over 1.1 million participants have raised over $174 M for the cause, with official Movember campaigns taking place in ten countries. For more information please visit www.movember.com. Movember is a registered 501(c)(3) charity.

About the Prostate Cancer Foundation

The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) is the world’s leading philanthropic organization funding and accelerating research. Founded in 1993, PCF has raised more than $450 million and provided funding to more than 1,500 researchers at nearly 200 institutions in 12 countries. PCF advocates for greater awareness of prostate cancer and more efficient investment of governmental research funds supporting transformational cancer research. Our efforts have helped produce a 20-fold increase in government funding for prostate cancer. More information about PCF can be found at pcf.org.

About LIVESTRONG/Lance Armstrong Foundation

LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation, serves people affected by cancer and empowers them to take action against the world's leading cause of death. Created as the Lance Armstrong Foundation in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, the organization is now known publicly by its powerful brand – LIVESTRONG – and is a leader in the global movement on behalf of 28 million people around the world living with cancer today. Originating with the iconic yellow wristband, LIVESTRONG has become a symbol of hope and inspiration to people affected by cancer around the world. Since its inception, the organization has raised more than $400 million for the fight against cancer. For more information, visit LIVESTRONG.org.

Movember History:

The idea for Movember was sparked in 2003 over a few beers in Melbourne, Australia. The plan was simple – to bring the moustache back as a bit of a joke and do something for men’s health. No money was raised in 2003, but the guys behind the Mo realized the potential a moustache had in generating conversations about men’s health. Inspired by the women around them and all they had done for breast cancer, the Mo Bros set themselves on a course to create a global men’s health movement.

In 2004 the campaign evolved and focused on raising awareness and funds for the number one cancer affecting men – prostate cancer. 432 Mo Bros joined the movement that year, raising $55,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia - representing the single largest donation they had ever received.

The Movember moustache has continued to grow year after year, expanding to the US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Spain, South Africa, the Netherlands and Finland.

In 2009, global participation of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas climbed to 255,755, with over one million donors raising $42 Million US equivalent dollars for Movember’s global beneficiary partners.

Movember has helped fund some groundbreaking programs to date. For more information, please visit www.movember.com.

  • Whole Genome Sequencing – Scientists, for the first time, have constructed a complete genetic map of prostate cancer. These findings aim to help patients work with their doctors to map the individual genetic alterations of their prostate cancer to determine the specific treatment needed for them. The PCF, the Broad Institute of Harvard, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston collaborated on this break-through research project.

  • Discovery of 25+ Subtypes of Prostate Cancer - Arul Chinnaiyan, MD, PhD, and his colleagues at the University of Michigan have, through the PCF, completed a research program identifying 25+ different subtypes of prostate cancer. This discovery hopes to help men facing prostate cancer answer the agonizing question: does their cancer need immediate treatment or can it be left alone?

  • LIVESTRONG/Movember Program - The LIVESTRONG/Movember Program will provide free, confidential one-on-one support to anyone, anywhere affected by cancer. This comprehensive, national program will help people diagnosed with cancer, their families, friends, loved ones, and the health care professionals who work with them. It will provide services around: emotional support, fertility risks and preservation options, insurance, employment and financial concerns, and treatment concerns.

  • Global Action Plan (GAP) – Identifying an opportunity to accelerate research outcomes thorugh collaboration, the Movember Foundation has established the Global Action Plan. GAP has two program elements- an annual global collaborative research project as well as Promoveo, a global, online community for prostate cancer researchers, clinicians and organizations to share information and finding.

Texas Ski Ranch and Wahoo's Fish Taco join forces to give children from St. Jude's Ranch an unforgettable day on Canyon Lake with Wake the World Texas!

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Texas Ski Ranch and Wahoo's Fish Taco proudly sponsor Wake the World Texas to help give children from St. Jude's Ranch an unforgettable day on the lake. Wake the World is an amazing organization that reaches out to local children's homes to provide an incredible day full or wakeboarding, water skiing, tubing and a little boat rest and relaxation.

"Our goal is to grow over the next few years from one children’s [home] to two, three or maybe four. We want to benefit not just the children’s home, but also the kids themselves.  We will give these kids a memory they would otherwise never have the chance to have………. A fun day at the lake," Wake the World Texas co-founder, Ryan Caroll.

TSR and Wahoo's could not think of a better organization with the same values and goals to support. Texas Ski Ranch is donating a MasterCraft boat, experienced driver and energetic coach to contribute to this amazing lake day. They are also throwing in goodies like sunglasses, water bottles and stickers for all the kiddos! Wahoo's Fish Taco, newest location at TSR, is donating a delicious and nutritious lunch to all 95 children and volunteers!

What better way to enjoy summer then to spread TSR and Wahoo's love of the lake with children who don't have the means to experience it on their own.

St. Jude’s Ranch for Children rescues abused, abandoned and neglected children of all races and faiths from the vicious cycle of child abuse.   We provide healing and nurturing in a safe home-like environment where children can learn life skills to start new lives with new chances, new choices and new hope.
